Amy Sather
I grew up in a small town near Seattle. And as many of my Joe colleagues can attest, weather in Western Washington can be a little, well, somber. You have to find things to help you cope. For me, that’s books and coffee. Which is pretty much the story of my life.
Reading a book in my first favorite coffeehouse, I gained a job (barista) and a great friend (my boss, Marianna). Marianna told me that I could go and live for free in my dream bookstore (Shakespeare and Co.) in Paris. So I did that. In Paris, I spent a lot of time in cafes, drinking (what else?) lots and lots of coffee.
Then, I came to New York, studied literature at The New School, and got a job in book publishing. And everyday for three years on my way to that job, I got coffee at Joe. And then one day I decided that I wanted to make coffee at Joe. So now I’m (so proud to be!) doing that. And working on my novel.
See? Books and coffee.
